9/11 and what it means to Americans

Nearly a quarter of a century ago America was attacked by Muslim extremist who hated our way of life so much that they traveled thousands of miles away to terrorize our people and bring us to our knees. What they accomplished instead was the brutal killing of thousands of innocent people from all over the world who most had fled their own country due to oppression and abuse.

They came here for the very same reason my family and I came here over half a century ago from Cuba. Most people don’t want to leave their homeland but sometimes due to political reasons they find themselves pressed for time and thirsting for freedoms they once had. These freedoms that our Founding Fathers fought for and created so that we may live a free and prosperous life without fear of political retribution. “That all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”. We must treasure those who gave all and be for ever thankful for their valiant actions. Actions only a parent would ordinarily do except these weren’t our parents, they were our founding fathers.

Today is a reminder that the fight for our freedoms haven’t ended, they are continually challenged by those who either can’t understand the value of such freedoms or are willingly trying to destroy our country from within. Yesterday we were reminded that some people do not want Americans to practice what our Founding Fathers preached and fought so valiantly for. Charlie Kirk was brutally assassinated in front of hundreds of young men and women at a university in Utah as a reminder that life and freedoms are sometimes brief and never guaranteed. We must remember that freedom is never free and must be fought for daily. America is the last Bastian of these freedoms and if we lose this fight those of us who fled our own country of birth will have no place to go.
